Cold.com will be auctioned in late November with a minimum acceptable bid of US$1 million, announced Patent Kinetics, LLC, an intellectual property strategy, evaluation, and brokerage company.

“We anticipate exceptionally strong interest in Cold.com,” said Bob Weber, Managing Director, Patent Kinetics, LLC. “Marketing, advertising, brand management, public relations professionals, and other executives should carefully evaluate how the unique Cold.com domain name and web presence could figure prominently in their efforts to extend brand equity by leveraging consumers’ brand and product associations with the word ‘cold’.”

Weber noted that the list of product categories and vertical markets that could make excellent use of the Cold.com domain name by utilizing the consumer’s brand and product associations is surprisingly long, and includes (and is by no means limited to):

Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages;

Cold medicines and pharmacies;

Ice cream, milk, and other dairy products;

Home heating and cooling;

Travel and leisure;

Winter sports and recreation;

Refrigeration;

Cold storage facilities;

Computer software; and

Video games.

A list compiled from public sources of the 30 high value domain names that have sold for at least US$1 million can be found at http://www.patentkinetics.com.

3-D.com, a website that has been around since 1998, will soon be up for grabs through auction by Sedo.com. The domain’s long time presence on the Internet makes it a valuable piece of web real estate and an asset to a variety of search campaigns based on domain history. This short and simple name also makes it easy to remember, a key factor in online campaigns today when half the battle is getting people to remember where they are supposed to go.

Bidding will open at 2:00 PM EST on Thursday, October 16th, 2008 in the United States. Sedo.com is hosting the sale and is certifying bidders in preparation for the scheduled auction. GreatDomains.com, a partner of Sedo.com, is listing 3-D.com at the top of its “premium auction” category based on the simplicity of the name and age of the domain.

3-D.com has been online for 10 years and until recently served as an information source for three dimensional or “3D” resources, news and links. The domain makes use of a hyphen to distinguish it as a site pertaining to 3-D or 3-dimensional topics, as opposed to the more ambiguous 3D.com. Hyphenation of domain names is a tricky concept and an often controversial argument among savvy internet users, but as “3-D” is the correct abbreviation for three-dimensional, the domain name is technically and grammatically correct.

The domain name auction is slated to run for one week, from October 16th to October 23rd. Bidding will begin at $1000 USD, a conservative figure given the domain’s history and variety of applicable uses. The domain name is well suited for a variety of 3-D art or animation companies or 3-D modeling and design firms. For more information, please view the auction listing for 3-D.com at Sedo.com.
